March 17th Board Update


RE: COVID-19; March 17, 2020

Our entire world is currently facing the most serious medical crisis we have ever experienced in our lifetime. COVID-19 has created an international public health emergency, and it is impacting all of us here at La Cabana, Aruba and around the world.

As such, under the leadership of our well-briefed management team, we are taking exceptional measures at La Cabana to ensure the safety of our guests and associates. We have heightened our cleaning procedures, providing more disinfecting stations around the property and doing fever testing daily for our Associates as they report to work. We have a doctor on call as well who will coordinate the procedure for testing and any required follow-up for people exhibiting symptoms should the need arise. We have closed our Fitness Center, reduced staffing in some areas and provided all guests and associates with clear guidelines about ramped up hygiene and the importance of social distancing. Our Glitz Casino has also closed until the end of this month. Every action and directive is in accordance with the very best advice, guidelines and orders from Aruba’s public health authority and the World Health Organization.

Some owners are asking about the loss of their week or weeks due to the recent announcement from their home jurisdictions and Aruba, relating to travel restrictions and cancellations. We fully understand the disappointment of those owners and we at LA CABANA also share in that disappointment as we adapt to these very unfortunate circumstances.

As we are sure you can appreciate, the absence of guests during this very difficult time, will certainly have a significant impact on our bottom line as well, and we have to do our very best to mitigate the results on your behalf. We can assure you that we share the anxieties and disappointments you all have during this time of crisis.

We all realize that La Cabana is a timeshare resort, with the majority ownership being fixed week owners. If the very few units that are currently available for sale, were to be used to accommodate owners who have lost their 2020 week or weeks, we most certainly would not be able to accommodate trades for all those affected. Your Board of Directors has discussed this at length and also looked at similar decisions made by other resorts on the Island. Although this decision was not an easy one, we have decided that in fairness to all, we will unfortunately not be able to consider trades or substitution weeks.

We appreciate your understanding; our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in our LA CABANA family, as together we strive to stay healthy, and follow the orders and guidelines from our public health authorities, governments and the World Health Organization during this extremely difficult time.
