Q1 REPORT FROM YOUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS


As your Board of Directors, we stand with you in our collective efforts to stay positive and hopeful as we reach the end of the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic that has impacted all of us. It has definitely been a very trying and difficult time, and our thoughts are with you and your families.

The Government and people of Aruba, as well as the management and associates at La Cabana, have worked hard to deal with the challenges, and have demonstrated their resolve to do all of the right things. We commend them and thank them with much appreciation.

The Board Members have continued to ensure the safety and comfort of owners is paramount, and that the standards you expect are maintained. Occupancy is starting to increase; restrictions are starting to ease off; and, we are working towards getting the green light to proceed with the pool renovation project. We are pleased to say it is on schedule in accordance with the required process.

Pool Renovation Project Update

This month marks completion of the initial design effort, as well as updates of the estimated cost and time frame. This ambitious Program will be delivered in two phases, designed to assure our owners and guests will have pool, hydrotherapy spa and sun deck availability and other amenities during construction.

The Program is currently envisioned to provide (dependent upon actual pricing and budget compliance, of course): in Phase 1, a new infinity edge adult pool with two spas, having spectacular views across to Eagle Beach, new sun deck areas and new restrooms, a new kiddie wet play area and kids’ club, and various support facilities.

The plan for Phase 2, includes a newly configured pool, water slide and sun deck areas, a new multilevel hospitality venue with gorgeous views of Eagle Beach, a new courtyard and expanded pass through linking the check in building with the pool area, new towel hut, cabanas, trellises, deck furniture, signage, lighting, and other amenities and support facilities.

The 1st Phase is expected to commence construction is early 2022 and complete in Q4 2022; the 2nd phase will have a construction duration of a little more than 12 months and will complete Q4 2025 (all of which is dependent upon final costing and budget compliance).

The next milestone will be this summer when we reach 60% completion of design, along with updates of the costing and schedule. Program adjustments may be made at that time, to maintain budget. Following that, Phase 1 design will be wrapped up and the work bid competitively, in Q4 of this year: again, any Program adjustments will be implemented as necessary for budget compliance.

Interior Renovations Update

We are also pleased to give you an update on the Interior Renovations project. Things are on track to start at the end of July thru to early October for the 1st and 2nd floors during our yearly scheduled maintenance week. Then in 2022, we will resume with the rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors from early May thru to the end of July.

Again, we all appreciate the importance of patience and understanding during these atypical times in our world. We can assure you that we will persevere with prudence and safety at the forefront of all efforts to move forward.
